To Receive Bioscience Recognition Award
New Haven, Conn., Sept. 27, 2005 - Connecticut Governor M. Jodi Rell has been named to receive the 2005 CURE Award for Excellence "for significant contribution or achievement in Connecticut bioscience." The award is conferred annually by CURE (Connecticut United for Research Excellence), the state bioscience organization.
In conferring the award, Paul R. Pescatello, president and CEO of CURE, cited Governor Rell's "early and unflinching support" of Connecticut's stem cell legislation, "which has positioned Connecticut as one of a handful of states to lead in this promising area of bioscience research."
Pescatello also cited the Governor's "courage and awareness" in the fight against breast cancer.
Governor Rell is scheduled to receive the CURE award Wednesday evening, September 28, in a ceremony at the Connecticut Convention Center. The ceremony is part of an Innovation Day and Award Dinner sponsored by the Alliance for Connecticut Technology, a group of 15 organizations working to advance high technology in Connecticut.
Other highlights of the day include a poster session showcasing over 100 of the state's most innovative companies, entrepreneurs, researchers and inventors, and a keynote address by Sir Harold Evans, the renowned historian of technology.
CURE (http://www.curenet.org) is a statewide coalition of over 100 educational and research institutions, biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies and other supporting businesses. It is dedicated to promoting the growth and increasing public understanding of biomedical research and science in Connecticut.
