General Information
The University of Connecticut Health Center includes the schools of medicine
and dental medicine, John Dempsey Hospital, the UConn Medical Group and
University Dentists. Founded in 1961, the Health Center pursues a mission of
providing outstanding health care education in an environment of exemplary
patient care, research and public service.

Through John Dempsey Hospital (204 Beds), the Health Center provides specialized and routine inpatient and outpatient services. Its distinctive research and teaching environment has led to the development of some widely acclaimed services, such as the Jean Marie Colbert Bone Marrow Transplant Center, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Treatment Center, and the Kidney Stone Center.

Each year in Farmington, about 320 "undergraduates" work toward their M.D. and 160 toward their D.M.D. Since the Health Center's inception, its administration and faculty have been committed to maintaining high-quality research programs as part of the institution's fabric.

Research Activities
The Health Center actively pursues a broad range of basic and clinical research activities in areas such as alcohol and drug abuse, biomaterial, biomedical, cancer, cardiology, imaging, neurology, reproduction and fertility. Research at the Health Center attracts substantial support from external sources including federal agencies, industry and voluntary health organizations.
