StemCONN 2011, the stem cell symposium held in Farmington March 22, included morning and afternoon scientific sessions that showcased leading stem cell researchers from within and without Connecticut.

"The state’s investment in stem cell research, accomplished through ground-breaking legislation in 2005, is paying dividends in many ways - supporting major research advances, making possible state-of-the-art research facilities, and creating jobs," said Dr. Laura Grabel, chair of the StemCONN 2011 Organizing Committee and professor of biology at Wesleyan University.

The morning scientific session was chaired by Dr. Grabel and the afternoon session by Dr. Marc Lalande, professor of genetics and developmental biology at the University of Connecticut Health Center.

The event, which was introduced by Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy, included a scientific poster session and a tour of the new Cell and Genome Sciences Building at 400 Farmington Avenue in Farmington.
