Is Guest Speaker at CURE Annual Meeting April 27

I’m delighted to report that at CURE’s Annual Meeting April 27, our guest speaker will be Professor Uwe Reinhardt of Princeton, one of the country’s foremost experts on the U.S. health care system and health care reform. In his talk, “Health Care Reform and Innovation,” Professor Reinhardt plans to examine how health care reform will play out over the next four years, and its impact on biopharma R&D and innovation.

CURE Speaks Against 'Gifts' Bill
Calling it “a bill in search of a problem,” Paul Pescatello, president of CURE, spoke against Raised Bill No. 270 in testimony March 1 before the Committee on Public Health of the Connecticut General Assembly. The bill purports to address the “problem” of gifts by biopharma companies to doctors and other health care providers – but that issue has already been successfully addressed and regulated by various other bodies, Pescatello said.

Health Network Plans Fortify CT Bioscience Sector
Plans were announced March 9 to establish the UConn Health Network, a partnership with area hospitals aimed at creating jobs and and improving access to quality health care in the state. A key feature of the Network would be a Bioscience Enterprise Zone, which would offer tax breaks to private companies that create jobs and work with UConn Health Network partners.
