Amarin Corporation

Presentation followed by networking, refreshments & wine bar

Amarin Corporation is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on improving the treatment of cardiovascular disease. The company is headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, and has its research and development headquartered in Mystic, CT. Amarin is listed in the U.S. on NASDAQ (ticker: AMRN).

Amarin’s lead candidate, AMR101, is currently being studied in two concurrently run pivotal Phase 3 trials. These trials are investigating the efficacy of ARM101 in lowering triglycerides in patients with very high triglycerides (>500mg/dl) and in patients with mixed dyslipidemia who are taking statins.

Amarin’s cardiovascular programs capitalize on Amarin's expertise in the field of lipid science and the known therapeutic benefits of essential fatty acids in treating cardiovascular disease.

Cardiovascular disease encompasses many different diseases with patients often suffering from multiple conditions. The most prevalent type is hypertension, or high blood pressure, with 85% of U.S. coronary heart disease (CHD) patients suffering from this condition. It is estimated that total U.S. pharmaceutical sales in the cardiovascular segment in 2006 were approximately $43.7 billion.

Over 50% of U.S. CHD patients have dyslipidemia, including elevated blood cholesterol levels, with the overall U.S. dyslipidemia population believed to be in excess of 100 million. The dyslipidemia market, excluding statins, was estimated at approximately $2.2 billion in 2006, representing a compound annual growth rate of 31% since 2002.

AMR101 is an ultra-pure omega-3 form being developed with ethyl ester of eicosapentaenoic acid (ethyl-EPA). Numerous independent studies have demonstrated the safety, tolerability and efficacy of ethyl-EPA in lowering plasma triglycerides in patients with high triglyceride levels of varying degrees of severity.

The BioHaven Entrepreneurship Series features presentations designed to showcase regionally developed life science technologies that have progressed along the path to commercialization.  Speakers at the BioHaven events represent both the scientific and business side of the enterprises.

The programs focus on key success factors of each company, scientific or technological advantage, business model, and lessons learned in starting and developing the business. The series also provides social networking opportunities for scientists, researchers, and businessmen.
