The
focus of the 2009 Connecticut legislative session will be
the budget. The January to June session will be
difficult and contentious as lawmakers contend with a $300
million deficit in the context of a deteriorating state and
national economy.
As lawmakers seek to bolster revenues, we
will be diligent in making the case for Connecticut
biopharma economic development.

Scientists and business people gathered in Yale's Anlyan Center October 16 to hear the opening seminar of this
sea son's CURE/Yale BioHaven Entrpreneurship Series, a presentation by
Humacyte, Inc. Jon Soderstrom, managing director of Yale's Office of Cooperative Research, introduced Dr. Laura
Niklason, M.D., Ph.D., Founder and CSO. and Geoffrey Erickson, Ph.D., President and CEO, of

Therapeutics Biggest Q3 Venture Capital Stake
The largest single venture
capital investment in Connecticut in the third quarter of
2008 went to Shelton-based biotech Cara Therapeutics, according to
the MoneyTree™ report from PricewaterhouseCoopers and the
National Venture Capital Association, based on data provided
by Thomson Reuters.

Massachusetts Sales Environment Ranked Last
The National Association of Pharmaceutical Sales Representatives
(NAPSRx®) has ranked Massachusetts as the worst state for pharmaceutical sales and marketing. The ranking follows the state's passage of a Healthcare Industry Transparency Law.
This risks exposure of product development plans to competitive firms, the
