Deadlines Approach for Stem Cell Research Applications

The deadline is nearing to apply for the next round of research grants through the Connecticut Stem Cell Research Grants Program. Deadline for the Letters of Intent is October 31. Deadline for the proposal submissions is December 8.

Ten million dollars is available in the Connecticut Stem Cell Research Grants Fund through June 30, 2009. For each of the fiscal years ending June 30, 2010 to June 30, 2015, inclusive, ten million dollars will also be available.

The intent of the Connecticut Stem Cell Research Advisory Committee is to fund the best basic and translational stem cell research proposals that Connecticut scientists can offer. The Advisory Committee says it intends to maintain a program of outstanding science that will continue Connecticut's pioneering role as an international center of excellence and leadership in stem cell research.

Connecticut researchers engaged in the advancement of embryonic or human adult stem cell research are encouraged to submit proposals. Funding of any form of stem cell research will be considered, but priority will be given to human embryonic stem cell research that is not currently eligible for federal funding.

Applications will be considered for (1) Seed Grants, (2) Established Investigators, (3) Group Projects, and (4) Core Facilities. For this funding cycle, total annual funding for Seed Grant Awards will be at least 10% of the total annual budget for the Connecticut Stem Cell Research Grants Program.
