Opens New Danbury Insulin Manufacturing Facility

the problems of Wall Street and Washington omnipresent in
the news, it's a pleasure to report on a very positive
development for the Connecticut economy. MannKind
Pharmaceuticals' decision to build a manufacturing facility
in Danbury for the company's promising new insulin product
is a vote of confidence in the bioscience cluster we've
built in Connecticut.

Soliris™ Honored at Prix Galien USA
Alexion Pharmaceuticals, Inc. of Cheshire has received a Prix Galien USA 2008 Award for Best Biotechnology Product for
Soliris® (eculizumab). The Award recognizes the scientific innovation represented by the complement-inhibition technology of
Soliris®, and the impact the drug is having on the lives of patients with paroxysmal nocturnal hemolglobinuria
(PNH), a rare, debilitating and life-threatening blood disorder.

Deadlines
Approach for Stem Cell Research Applications
The deadline is nearing
to apply for the next round of research grants through the Connecticut Stem Cell Research Grants Program. Deadline for the Letters of Intent is October 31. Deadline for the proposal submissions is December 8.

SBIR Conference Scheduled for Hartford
The national SBIR 2008 National Conference will be held this year in Hartford at the Connecticut Convention Center November 12-14. Scheduled highlights of the three-day event include a keynote address by nationally known forensic scientist Dr. Henry Lee.
