Behind us lies another spectacular Connecticut summer, and ahead we can already see the cluster beginning to hum with new activity. CURE member organizations have continued to make news, and we are putting together exciting new programs for the coming season.

CURE Cookout Draws Biotech Crowd to Branford 
Back by popular demand, the CURE summer biotech cookout was held again this year at the Owenego Inn in Branford. More than 175 employees and friends of CURE member organizations registered for the July 17 event, playing the DNA Game, sampling the hot and cold buffet, and networking in the sunshine along the beautiful Connecticut shoreline.

Optherion Biggest CT Venture Capital Draw in Q2 
The largest single venture capital investment in Connecticut in the second quarter of 2008 went to Branford-based biotech Optherion, according to the MoneyTree™ report from PricewaterhouseCoopers and the National Venture Capital Association, based on data provided by Thomson Reuters. Separately, for the fiscal year ending June 30, Connecticut Innovations invested $11.5 million in 18 companies, up from $6.9 million in the 2007 fiscal year.
